Shift Lead


Overview

The awe-inspiring, welcoming experience of Vertical View begins with a cohesive and welcoming front desk crew that looks to you for leadership. You know how to delegate and lead by example. Your strong communication skills and engaging personality allow you to effectively offer correction, direction, and information to the team and guests. Your positive influence is critical to the success of the whole crew.  

Shift Lead Duties 

The following shift lead duties are in addition to the front desk duties.

- Be a positive representative and recognize your influence in setting the tone for the shift;

- Lead with enthusiasm and engaged interest toward each guest and crew member;

- Report the day’s activities to the leadership team and shift lead crew; 

- Carry out additional projects or duties as assigned;


AWARENESS || Cooperative, problem-solver, appreciative, personable, good common sense, honest

- Oversee and provide member/guest satisfaction in-house and on the phone;

- Communicate interpersonal or day-to-day issues to a member of the leadership team;

- Stay current on, educate, train, enforce, and abide by all gym rules, operational procedures, and policies;

- Be mindful, respectful, positive, and kind as matters are discussed relating to coworkers; 

- Lead by example, delegate, and/or oversee the daily operations of the front desk team, ensuring that 

  floor walks, customer service needs, belay classes, & daily/weekly cleaning meet the highest of standards;

- Be prepared to perform a rescue;

- Open and close the facility and the POS system. 


MENTORSHIP || welcoming, community-centered, supportive, invested, attentive

- Be willing to correct staff behavior, resolve conflicts, and give and receive constructive feedback;

- Be confident in the training material and in the training process for the front desk crew; 

- Ensure critical check-in procedures are performed accurately – memberships, waivers, promotions, etc.;   

- Stay up-to-date on, train, and promote memberships, products, programs, and offerings to crew & guests;

- Problem-solve, make informed decisions, and use sound judgment;


Shift Lead Preferences and Requirements

- 18 years of age or older;

- 1+  years of experience in the climbing industry preferred;

- Previous supervisory experience preferred;

- Availability: 24 hours per week minimum with the flexibility to work nights and weekends;

- Experience with POS and Customer Resource Management software preferred;

- Customer service and retail experience, climbing-specific preferred;

- Must be or able to be top rope and lead climbing certified at our facility;

- Willing to participate in and learn all industry-standard training provided by Vertical View instructors;

- Physical ability to respond and react quickly and efficiently within the facility. Able to perform all movements relating to belaying and belay instruction; participate and show propper climbing technique; 

  carry/lift up to 25 lbs; stand/sit/walk for extended periods. Physical fitness is required to participate in classes and show participants proper climbing techniques.

- CPR/First Aid certification is required and provided by Vertical View.

Shift Lead Pay and Perks

- $14-15/hour DOE;
