VERTICAL VIEW RULES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
EVERYONE MUST CHECK IN AT THE FRONT DESK AND HAVE A ‘RELEASE OF LIABILITY WAIVER’ ON FILE.
Waivers for persons under the age of 18 must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.
Children 11 and younger must be accompanied and supervised by someone 16 or older.
ALL TYPES OF CLIMBING ARE DANGEROUS AND INVOLVE INHERENT RISKS. CLIMB AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Participating in climbing and all other activities at Vertical View means you acknowledge and assume the risks involved.
Observing these rules does not guarantee you will be free from harm.
Guests are responsible for understanding and climbing within their ability and risk limits.
All accidents and injuries must be reported to staff regardless of severity.
Babies and toddlers are not permitted in fall zones (padded areas).
We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
ALL CLIMBING TRAINING AND INSTRUCTION MUST BE DONE BY VERTICAL VIEW STAFF.
There is no climbing instruction, personal training, coaching, or commercial use of Vertical View outside of staff instruction.
You must pass a test and receive a harness tag before participating in any climbing or belaying.
EQUIPMENT AND BELONGINGS
All participants must use the proper equipment. Only UIAA-certified ropes, carabiners, belay devices, and harnesses with two hard points are allowed.
All equipment must be used in accordance with our rules and the manufacturer’s instructions.
Report faulty or damaged Vertical View equipment or unsafe conditions to staff immediately.
Equipment brought into Vertical View shall be used at the sole and exclusive risk of the owner of such equipment. You are responsible for knowing how to use, inspect, and ensure that the equipment you bring to Vertical View is fit for use. Vertical View is not responsible for inspecting or otherwise ensuring your equipment is fit for use. Vertical View reserves the right to deny the use of any outside equipment.
All lead climbing belayers must use an approved ABD (Assisted Braking Device) when belaying another climber.
Lead climbers must provide their own 40 meter lead rope.
Vertical View is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Lockers, cubbies, and concrete seating areas are provided for convenience only. Guests are responsible for providing locks.
Empty your pockets and remove loose objects before climbing.
Everyone must wear closed-toed shoes and a shirt.
Keep climbing shoes out of the restrooms.
Food and beverages are permitted in the concrete areas but not on carpets or pads.
No pets are allowed, with the exception of service animals.
IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO READ AND COMPLY WITH ALL VERTICAL VIEW RULES AND INSTRUCTIONS.
This document is not intended to include or provide an exhaustive description of all climbing risks and hazards. These rules are subject to change. Specific rules apply to various parts of the gym.
Walk in the gym. Do not run, swing on the ropes, engage in acrobatic activities, or horseplay.
Improper conduct, including the use of vulgar language, is not permitted.
Vertical View staff has the right to revoke gym access at any time for any reason.
Speak to the front desk staff if you have any questions, concerns, or want a copy of the gym rules.
AUTO BELAY CLIMBING RULES
YOUR SAFETY IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY!
You must pass a test and receive a harness tag before participating in any climbing or belaying.
Climbers must be 12 years old or older to clip themselves into an auto belay.
Children 11 and younger must be clipped into the auto belay by someone 16 or older who is responsible for accompanying and supervising them.
The use of headphones while using the auto belay system is prohibited.
BOULDERING RULES
BOULDERING IS DANGEROUS! EVERY BOULDERING FALL IS A GROUND FALL.
By climbing, you assume the risk that you may be injured when landing.
Abiding by our rules and instructions does not guarantee safety.
If you have any questions about bouldering, the facility, or safety, ask our staff.
BOULDERING PADS ARE INTENDED TO REDUCE THE IMPACT OF A FALL AND ARE NOT DESIGNED TO PREVENT ALL INJURIES. FALLING FROM A BOULDERING WALL MAY RESULT IN INJURY OR EVEN DEATH.
Downclimb whenever possible. Climb only as high as you are willing to fall.
With time, flooring can wear and soften. It is the climber’s responsibility to check their landing zone before climbing.

BE AWARE OF YOURSELF AND YOUR SURROUNDINGS WHEN BOULDERING.
Do not climb above, below, or in the fall zone of another climber.
Keep a six foot distance between yourself and other climbers on the wall.
Report faulty or damaged equipment or unsafe conditions to staff immediately.
Everyone must wear closed-toed shoes and a shirt.
It is your responsibility to read and abide by all gym rules.
Food, drink, and belongings are not allowed on any of the padded floors.
ROPE CLIMBING RULES
CLIMBING IS DANGEROUS! YOUR SAFETY IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY!
You must pass a test and receive a harness tag before participating in any climbing or belaying.
Always perform a safety check with your climbing partner before each climb.
Keep adequate distance between you and other climbers on the wall.
Climb under the designated anchor for each route.
Sitting or lying down while belaying is not permitted.
KNOW THE BELAYING AND CLIMBING AGE LIMITS
Children 11 and younger must be accompanied and supervised by someone 16+.
Climbers must be 12 years old or older to be certified to top rope belay.
Climbers must be 14 years old or older to be certified to lead belay or lead climb.
BE AWARE OF ADDITIONAL LEAD CLIMBING REQUIREMENTS
Traversing or bouldering is not permitted in any roped area.
Rappelling is not permitted anywhere in Vertical View.
Assisted Braking Devices (ABDs) are required when lead belaying.
Lead climbing may only be done on routes with quickdraws pre-hung by Vertical View. Personal quickdraws are not permitted.
Top roping is not permitted on the lead wall.
Skipping quickdraws or climbing outside of the drawline is not permitted.
YOUTH PROGRAM ROOM RULES

KNOW THE AGE LIMITS.
Childen 11 and younger must be clipped into the auto belay system by someone who has received the auto belay certification.
Climbers must be 12 years old or older to be certified to top rope belay or clip into the auto belay system.
Fitness equipment is for ages 16+.
ADDITONAL RULES
Keep hands and fingers off of the metal hardware.
Only climb when the belayer says they are ready.
Ropes are for climbing, not for swinging or playing.
No running or excessive yelling.
PROFICIENCY TESTS
BELAYING AND LEAD CLIMBING TESTS ARE CRITICAL TO THE OVERALL SAFETY OF OUR GUESTS.
Never assume that you will automatically pass.
Each customer must pass all parts of the belay or climbing test without practice, additional instruction, or error.
Customers who do not demonstrate proficiency in all parts of the belay or climbing tests will not be allowed to belay or climb that day but can still enjoy bouldering, use of the auto belays, or top rope climbing with guests who are belay certified.
Guests are only allowed one belay test per day.
CONSIDER A CLIMBERS EDUCATION COURSE.
Climbers who do not pass the proficiency tests are encouraged to take the Belay On and/or Lead It Course in order to fully cover all of the material.
CLIMBING ETIQUETTE
BE CONSIDERATE OF THE CLIMBERS AROUND YOU.
Look at the entire route before getting on the wall to ensure that it does not cross another climber already on the wall.
Stay six feet away from other climbers and out of their fall zones.
Walk behind a belayer rather than between the belayer and the climber.
Avoid excessive chalk usage by shaking excess chalk into your chalk bag, or use liquid chalk to really make a difference!
Keep water bottles and other personal belongings off of the climbing pads.
Be aware and courteous when someone is waiting for a route.
If someone is preparing a route by brushing it off, let them climb it first.
FITNESS RULES
Guests must be 16 years or older to use the fitness areas.
Do not drop weights.
Wipe down and return all weights and equipment to their proper place.
Everyone must wear proper, closed-toed, athletic shoes and a shirt.
Please be courteous to your fellow gym users.
Report any faulty or damaged equipment or conditions to staff immediately.
SAUNA RULES & ETIQUETTE
It is solely your responsibility to monitor your body and its reactions and determine if it is appropriate to use the sauna. You alone are responsible for your safety and well-being.
Guests with medical conditions, concerns, or who are pregnant should consult a physician prior to use.
Guests must be 16 years or older to use the saunas.
Saunas are limited to four people maximum.
You must sit on a towel to use the infrared sauna.
Cover-ups are required - clothing, swimwear, or a towel.
Remove shoes before entering the sauna.
Exit the sauna if you feel unwell, dizzy, or overheated.
Showering before entering the sauna is recommended.
No lotions, oils or chemicals are permitted in the sauna.
Do not pour water on yourself or in the sauna.
Drinking water is permitted in a closed container.
Do not exercise in the saunas.
Cool down from exercise before entering the sauna.
Use of the sauna by yourself is not recommended.
Do not use the sauna while under the influence of alcohol, narcotics, or other drugs.
Sauna sessions should not exceed 40 minutes at one time.
